Call for Proposals: Symposium on Teaching and Learning

Proposal submission deadline: *EXTENDED* Thursday, March 15, 2012
Symposium dates: Wednesday–Thursday, May 16–17, 2012

Location: SFU Burnaby

Join other SFU educators as we explore some key teaching and learning initiatives, share recent work, and discuss how our collective efforts can transform the student experience. This year’s Symposium focuses on how faculty members and instructors are enhancing their students’ learning experiences through innovation and inquiry. You will discover strategies, tools, examples, and critical perspectives for leading change at SFU.

We invite proposals from SFU faculty, instructors, teaching assistants, tutor-markers, graduate and undergraduate students, instructional staff, and administrators that demonstrate how your teaching practice, research, and pursuit of scholarship in teaching and learning have benefited your students’ learning. Proposals involving student/faculty collaborations are encouraged.

SUBMISSION
You may submit proposals that reference or speak to the “Leading Change @ SFU” theme for consideration by the program committee for one or more of the following types of sessions: workshop, roundtable discussion or poster.

● Workshops should be action-oriented (60 or 75 minutes) and should be of interest and relevance to a wide audience. They should include a short presentation of research findings, illustration of theories and practices in teaching, or show-and-tell of tools and practices, and include activities for attendees to participate in.

● Dialogue/roundtable sessions (60 or 75 minutes) should, once the facilitator introduces the issues and lays out expectations, see participants grouped at roundtables to discuss and provide practical strategies to deal with these issues.

● Posters should present summary information about your work in a visual or text format in a way that is of interest to Symposium participants. You will be asked to talk about your poster during a late-day reception/networking session.
